Not because the opportunity is not obvious, but because knowing AI matters and knowing where to begin are two different things.

Here is the formula I use.

Ask yourself these four questions in order:

1. Where is the repetition? What tasks happen daily or weekly, follow the same pattern every time, and consume your team’s time without consuming their intelligence? That is your first candidate.

2. Where is the frustration? What process do employees or customers complain about most? Frustration is a signal. It usually points to something slow, manual, or inconsistent. AI fixes all three.

3. Where is the data? AI needs information to work with. Which function in your organisation already generates the most data, reports, logs, queries, and transactions? Start where the raw material already exists.

4. Where is the cost highest? Not just money. Time. Errors. Delays. Reputation. Which function, if improved by 30%, would leadership notice immediately? That is where the business case for AI is easiest to make and easiest to fund.

The function that answers most of these four questions is where AI should start in your organisation.

Not the most exciting use case. Not the one you saw at a conference. The one closest to your real pain.

That is your Tuesday morning assignment.
