Microsoft recently released a report surveying 31,000 workers across 31 countries. One line changed how I see the next five years of work in Africa:
"In some functions, the next new hire may not be a person but a digital colleague." AI agents. Purchased on demand. Deployed like staff. Scaled like software. Well, this isn't a threat to talent. Instead, it is the biggest career opportunity your generation has ever seen.
Here is why. Someone has to build those agents. Someone has to design the workflows they run on. Someone has to train them, manage them, measure their output, and know when to override them. That someone is not a robot. That is you.
Most top leaders are actively planning to hire for AI-specific roles right now. --- AI trainers. Agent specialists. AI data analysts. AI strategists in marketing, customer support, consulting, and finance. --- These roles did not exist a few years ago. They are being posted and filled today.
